Romantic Places to Travel this Valentine’s Day

Tanzania Island

If you’re looking to really spoil your loved one this Valentine’s Day, then why not forego the silly presents and do something really special this year? A shared trip together is one of the most romantic gestures you can make, and it’s the perfect opportunity to get to know each other better and create those magical memories that last a lifetime.

If you want to make the trip a complete surprise, then you might want to rope in some of your beloved’s friends and work colleagues to act as coconspirators to make sure they can take the time off and get it all cleared beforehand! Without further ado, here are just a few of the destinations you could choose from.

Thanda Island, private island luxury off the coast of Tanzania

With a private chef, spa therapist, snorkeling guide and dive instructor on hand, what could be more romantic than your very own secluded island? The warm, sparkling turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean are particularly delightful around this time of year, giving you and your significant other the perfect opportunity to laze by the beach, taking the odd dip in the ocean while you sip cocktails!

Thanda Island has every amenity you love about the 21st century – with Wi-Fi, fine dining, an air-conditioned gym, and of course that luxurious spa experience, with everything that’s magical about getting away from it all too! Try your skills on the jet skis, wakeboards or pedal boards, or enjoy your break in more relaxed style with the bird walk, or sharing the spectacular opportunity to swim with a whale shark!

Venice, Italy

There are so many reasons that couples choose this magical city as their honeymoon destination, so it’s no surprise that it makes the perfect location for a romantic getaway too! Staying in one of the many luxurious hotels that this city, which is actually comprised of 117 mini-islands separated by the famous canals, has to offer makes it an ideal choice for an extended weekend stay in real style.

The city has no roads, of course, just the familiar canals which are traversed via the famous gondolas. Some of the romantic must-see attractions include the Grand Canal thoroughfare with its impressive Renaissance and Gothic palaces, the central square, Piazza San Marco, St. Mark’s Basilica, and the Campanile bell tower to name but a few. Many, such as the Hotel Principe and Bauer Il Palazzo have their own boat landings, so your gondola can deliver you right to your doorstep. And the extra-romantic Hotel Cipriani even boasts one of the city’s only swimming pools!

Prague, Czech Republic

Many people compare their first visit to Prague like stepping into a fairytale, so what better place to share with your prince or princess? Wandering the romantic streets, sharing a traditional Czech cuisine candlelit dinner and taking in some of the area’s famous classical music soirees is sure to melt the heart of even the most stoic visitor!

Strolling the cobblestone lanes under the city’s beautiful and enchanting gas lamps, enjoying some of the quirky eateries and hidden parks and gardens that crop up all over the city, visiting the many historical buildings, or taking in a romantic boat cruise down the Vltava are just some of the activities for you and your significant other (or láska as the locals say) to enjoy together!

Make sure to visit the Prague Castle, the Cathedral of St. Vitus, the Basilica of St. George, and the Daliborka Tower on Golden Lane too.

Cannon Beach, Oregon

If you’re looking for the ultimate romantic retreat in the USA, the charming city of Cannon Beach with the remarkable Haystack Rock, tide pools, sea caves and vibrant downtown is an excellent choice! Located in northwest Oregon, you and your significant other could choose to spend lazy days strolling the boutique shops and art galleries of downtown, which has been rated as one of America’s top 100 art towns, or just taking in the magnificent scenery and landscapes of the region.

There is plenty to keep you busy, from enjoying a glass or two of locally produced wine at the Nehalem Bay Winery, taking in a show at the Coaster Theatre Playhouse, pampering yourselves at one of the city’s day spas, or venturing out to discover the hidden waterfall at the Hug Point!
