Colorado is known as the gateway to the west and is a great place to be if you want access to other parts of the country. Home to one of America’s largest airports allowing you to fly across the country, the state is also close to many highways. This means you do not have to stay in the area while you’re on vacation (Unless you really want to) you can travel Albuquerque, Utah, Wyoming, and many other parts of the United States. This means you can take a few days out if you wish and spend a bit of time elsewhere.

There’s a Lot of Wildlife Around

If you’re a lover of wildlife you are going to love Colorado. You can see small creatures such as wild rabbits or large creatures such as moose that call this state their home. You may even spot some foxes, elk, deer and horses. If you venture into the country you may even see some bears. Take your camera with you and make sure you get some great pictures. While the locals are used to seeing moose and elk around, some visitors are quite surprised at how they seem to wander wherever they please.

Please note that most of the animals you’ll come across in Colorado are wild and they should not be approached. You can take photographs of them from a safe distance but a selfie is out of the question from a safety point of view. Simply get your camera at the ready and allow Colorado’s incredible wild animals to go about their day unimpeded.

You can Enjoy a Spot of Fly Fishing

If you love fly fishing or you would like to try your hand at it Colorado is a great place to be. The Colorado River is a great place to start but so is Granby so you may want to give that a try too. There are approximately 35 species of fish, both cold water and warm water fish in Colorado. This means you may well catch something that you’ve never seen before!

There are fly fishing experts in Colorado who will be more than happy to take you on a guided tour of the area. The Fraser River is home to some private fishing spots that your guide will happily show you. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore other local waters, ensuring that you’re more likely to catch a fish or two.

If you’ve never enjoyed fly fishing before but you would like to give it a try you’ll find the tour guides are very amenable. They seem to know all there is to know about fly fishing and will gladly show you how to catch a few fish.

You can enjoy a spot of horseback riding, skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, hunting, and so much more.
