When one thinks of what are the most luxurious destinations in the world, the city of Dubai is always in the top positions. Luxury, exuberance, and eccentricities are clear protagonists in the city, but you will find experiences and activities for all budgets. There are things to do in Dubai that would be unthinkable anywhere else in the world. It is one of the places that every lover of travel must visit at least once in a lifetime. In Dubai everything is possible! Our first visit to Dubai was in August, on a two-day scale of our trip to Thailand. In this article, we detail what are the main things to do in Dubai in 2 days of August.
Is Dubai a safe city?
It can be said that Dubai is a very safe city. We do not feel insecure at any time during our stay in it. The controls at airports and passports are exhaustive. There is zero tolerance for drugs, excess alcohol in public and any behavior considered offensive or obscene. The fines for breaking the law are high and can even lead to jail. In short, respecting their rules, their customs and using common sense, you will not have any problem in the city. Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world to visit.
What to do in Dubai on two days in August
During the months of July and August, the temperature in the Emirates is quite extreme, exceeding 40 degrees practically every day. At night, the temperature usually drops to 30. Still, it is possible to take advantage of the visit, since you will find many things to do in Dubai in July and August. Before buying the tickets we had many doubts whether to do the scale or not since we were afraid that the temperatures in Dubai in August would be very extreme. And we do not regret it. Being honest, we spent a lot of heat, but we would have lengthened the scale at least one more day. Despite the heat, there are many things to do in Dubai in summer.
The first advice would be to take advantage of the hottest hours to visit the gigantic shopping centers or to visit closed attractions, such as going up to the Burj Khalifa or to The Frame (of recent construction, we have already visited it and we will talk about it in a next article). In the evening, when the temperature has dropped some degree, we can take advantage to know the old area of Dubai, walk through Madinat de Jumeirah or dine in Dubai Marina. Although it is not the best time of the year to visit Dubai in August if you have the opportunity to go, do it without hesitation.
Many people who visit Dubai do so during a stopover to Southeast Asia or the Far East. We took the opportunity provided by the Emirates airline to make a Stopover, and on our trip to Southeast Asia, we made a three-night stop in the city. The price of the flights was the same as if we had made a stopover of only a few hours.
The arrival of the first of the 3 days was at 10 pm and we only had time to pick up the rental car at the airport and go straight to our hotel, the Pullman Jumeirah Lakes Towers. A modern hotel that we fully recommend to stay. The airport is located to the north of the city and the hotel to the south, so our first contact with Dubai was to cross the Sheikh Zayed Road at night, among the illuminated skyscrapers. A start of the spectacular trip.
The two days that we had completed we decided to organize them in the best way possible to make the most of the time. We would have liked to do something else, like the excursion to the desert, but being August the temperature was not the most adequate. Then we tell you our itinerary of what to do in Dubai in two days of August, spending little money on the visit.
The first day of our visit to Dubai in two days we decided to start it by the complex where the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa are located. In the afternoon, when the temperature dropped some degree, we approached the Madinat resort of Jumeirah for a walk and the beach of Jumeirah Beach (best beaches in Dubai). From this beach, public, you have one of the best views of the Burj Al Arab hotel. Before heading to the hotel, we enter The Palm, until we reach the Hotel Atlantic. To end the day, and as we had it close to our hotel, we dined at Dubai Marina, a perfect area to walk at night.
The first day we started by visiting the largest shopping center in the world. It is a must, not only to shelter from the suffocating heat of Dubai in August but also because inside you will find absolutely everything. It is not a commercial center to use, as we are used to seeing in Europe. Among the things to do at the Dubai Mall There are more than 1,200 stores that it houses. In them, you will find from the world’s leading luxury brands to virtually all international low-cost brands. It also has an ice skating rink, the Sega Republic theme park, a huge aquarium, children’s attractions, the most modern movie theaters, hundreds of restaurants where you can eat, etc. You could spend a whole day inside without finishing visiting it. The Mall is located at the foot of the impressive Burj Khalifa, with direct access from the shopping center. In its large outdoor pond is the Dubai Fountain, an impressive water show, accompanied by music and lights. Recommended seeing at sunset. This huge shopping and leisure center is one of the main things to do in Dubai in two days.
With no need to move the car from the parking lot (free of charge in practically all the shopping centers in Dubai), the next visit we made was to the impressive Burj Khalifa skyscraper. With its 828 meters high, it is the tallest building in the world. Located in the Downtown district of Dubai, the area of shopping and entertainment par excellence offers from the heights the best views of the city and the desert. Among the obligatory things to do in Dubai, in two days or more, is to go up to Burj Khalifa and enjoy the panoramic views from floors 124 and 148. The best time to visit is at sunset. In this way, you can see the city with the last rays of the sun and a few minutes later, illuminated at night.
After visiting the Dubai Mall, see the show of the fountains and music (without lights as it was day), and enjoy the breathtaking views from the Burj Khalifa, we took the car and left the complex south direction to reach the Madinat neighborhood Jumeirah Among the things to do in Dubai in two days of August cannot miss the visit to this tourist complex. In it, you will find hotels, numerous restaurants, an elegant souk reproducing an old Arab market and the Wild Wadi water park. All this surrounded and crossed by a network of water channels, in which it is possible to navigate in gondola or small boats. If you visit the city in summer, Madinat Jumeirah should be among the things to see in Dubai in the evening, since the day is very hot and there are hardly any areas of shade.
Burj Al Arab
Next to the Madinat Jumeirah complex is the luxurious Burj Al Arab Jumeirah hotel and next to it Jumeirah Beach. Towards her, we went to immortalize the silhouette of one of the most famous hotels in the world. Located on an artificial island, it measures 321 meters high and is said to be the most luxurious hotel. As you can imagine it is not made for all budgets. Sleeping one night costs at least € 2,000. Another “cheaper” option is to have tea in your restaurant with views, for the modest price of € 200more or less. We settle for a stroll along the beach and contemplate the Burj Al Arab from a distance. If you have little time in the city, getting closer to Jumeirah beach should be one of the things to do in Dubai.
Hotel Atlantis the Palm
A few kilometers to the south is The Palm Jumeirah, an impressive artificial archipelago in the shape of a palm tree. It houses luxury developments and, at the end of it, the Hotel Atlantis The Palm. Next to the hotel is the Atlantis water park. The Atlantis The Palm impresses as seen from the outside, so you can imagine from within. As the objective of the two-day stopover in Dubai was to know the largest number of the main attractions in the city, we only saw the hotel from the parking lot opposite. We will leave the visit to your interior, and the stay, for a next visit. As with the Burj al Arab, contemplating the Atlantic should be among the things to do in Dubai in two days. We immortalize the hotel and its surroundings in some photos and continue our brief visit to this incredible city.
After passing through our hotel we went to dinner and spend the night in this modern neighborhood. Dubai Marina is impressive. The area of Dubai that surprised us most. In this neighborhood, you will find luxury yachts moored in small docks. You can walk along a long pedestrian promenade called The Walk, next to the JBR beach, with dozens and dozens of restaurants, cafes and shops, a modern and crowded beach, resorts, hotels … all surrounded by skyscrapers everywhere. We loved this area of the city. Without a doubt, we believe that visiting Dubai Marina is one of the best things to do in Dubai at night.
On the second day of our visit to Dubai, we decided to get up early and head towards Abu Dhabi. We had decided beforehand that among the things to do in Dubai in two days could not miss the half-day tour to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. This impressive mosque is a must-see on a trip to the UAE. After spending a few hours visiting it (between 2 and 3 hours is enough) we went, also in Abu Dhabi, to the huge leisure complex on the island of Yas. When the sun began to fall and the heat gave a little respite, we discovered the other Dubai; the old city, the Dubai Creek and the gold and spices souk. To end the night and our two-day stopover in Dubai, we dined at an excellent Lebanese restaurant.
Half-day excursion to the Abu Dhabi Mosque
One of the obligatory things to do in Dubai, if you have several days in the city and have rented a car, should be the visit to the Sheikh Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. It is less than an hour and a half away and it is one of the largest mosques in the world and one of the most impressive. Yes, remember that in summer it is very hot. We visited her in the morning, with more than 40 degrees. Although the heat outside was oppressive, inside the mosque the temperature dropped several degrees. One of the main things to do in Dubai and Abu Dhabi is always to visit the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. An authentic work of art and, next to the Burj Khalifa, the emblem building of the Arab Emirates.
Before returning to Dubai, we stopped for lunch at the Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi. It is located on the outskirts of the city, on the island of Yas. This huge place is famous because it contains, in addition to the gigantic shopping center Yas Mall, the Yas Marina speed circuit and the Ferrari World and Movie World theme parks, among many other attractions.
Dubai Creek is one of the must-see places in Dubai. It is a natural water inlet that separates the city into two parts. As if suspended in time, he has seen up close the rapid growth of the city around him. On its two banks contrast small modern buildings (small compared to the skyscrapers of the city) with the ancient souks and minarets of mosques. The best way to get to know it is to get on one of the typical boats and cross the channel to the other shore. The price is approximately € 0.25. The trip is short and the views are worth it. At night the channel has a special charm.
In the area of Deira is the old city. Here it is possible to move to the past and forget for a few hours the skyscrapers of the modern city. In the heart of Deira is the Gold Souk and the Spice Souk. Walking through them we will have the feeling of being in the environment of any other city in the East, far from Dubai. Showcases with impressive and eccentric jewelry will take us to the smells of the other well-known souk, that of spices. Climbing a boat in Dubai Creek and crossing to the other shore is one of the essential things to do in Dubai in two days. You can discover the most authentic face of the city.
