3 Relaxing Places in Europe and How not to Ruin Your Trip

The world is a vast and endless pace, filled with secret treasure that could melt the stress from anyone’s shoulders. Sometimes, we all need to get away from the world we live in and visit a few other places to unwind and regroup. However, sometimes we have a tendency to open up a can of worms that can easily destroy the peace we’ve worked so hard to create on our trip. Here are a few of the most relaxing places that have been discovered, the pitfalls, and how to avoid them.

Amsterdam (Netherlands)

There are several things to do in Amsterdam. You could always walk around and check out the sites and then go for a little walk through the Rijksmuseum and admire out the different masterpieces decorating the walls, or you could enjoy a good relaxing float on one of the various ferry adventures throughout the watery canaled city. In the West, we’ve made the mistake of forcing everything to be an on the go featurette in our daily lives. We’ve also made the mistake of taking in the sites without taking the time to figure out what we’re walking into, walking in, or talking to the locals. Walking in the bike lanes in this beautiful city is a huge tourist mistake. So, if you’re not sure where to put your feet or your tires, ask a local what the sign says. There’s no shame in that and it will help you keep your feathers from being ruffled if you happen to get yelled at by a local rider. At the end of your journey, take a deep breath at a local coffee shop and relax. Don’t get anything to go, don’t even try. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere that is Amsterdam.

Ireland

Many people think kilts, Guinness, red hair, and sheep when it comes to Ireland but the country holds so much more for those looking to unwind. Check out an authentic Gaelic football bout or enjoy a few hurling competitions while you’re out there. A little screaming with the locals is a great way to unwind and lose yourself in the fanfare. Once you and your new mates have finished enjoying a few competitive activities head over to the local pub of your choice and have yourself a drink. While Temple Bar does seem to be the bar that most tourists head to, try to explore your options and ask the locals what to do. Don’t make the mistake of having one too many. The last thing you want on your trip is a hangover or a trip to the local alcohol rehab facility. After you wake up from your first day of wild adventures, take a walk on the island coasts and explore the wildlife. You might be surprised what you see out there.

Kefalonia/Cephalonia (Greece)

If you’re looking for the petit getaway to end your big city troubles, this Greek paradise is definitely worth checking out. Kefalonia (also spelled Cephalonia) is filled with small towns that lack the average hustle and bustle of most other major tourist attracting areas in Greece. Many prefer to just sit back, rent a small skiff and go out on the waters, exploring the cliff-sides and various trees surrounding the island. Other prefer to relax on the beach and take in the ocean air. For those who would rather enjoy the cities, walking around is a big opportunity to kick back and relax in a place that you’re not tied to. Enjoy the traditional Greek buildings and orchard like vegetation surrounding the streets and buildings. One thing you won’t want to do when visiting this beautiful island is forget the sunscreen. While that might seem like a no-brainer, many people do forget that they are enjoying the outdoors, and at times, the oceans aren’t kind when it comes to sun rays pummeling you. Other than that, feel free to kick back and enjoy the pristine blue waters of Kefalonia.

These are but a few of the most relaxing destinations in the European region. Make sure to always remain kind and courteous when visiting. The last thing you want to ruin your trip is the scowling populace. Other than that, kick back and take it easy. It’s time to unwind. What are a few other places that you can think of to kick back?
